Anthropic Introduces Claude Haiku 5.5, Its Fastest and Most Affordable Model

Anthropic has introduced a new artificial intelligence model called Claude Haiku 5.5. It is an updated version of the company’s more affordable Haiku family. The model is primarily designed for scenarios involving a large number of tasks where speed and low cost are the main priorities.

According to Anthropic, Claude Haiku 5.5 is the fastest model the company has developed to date. This makes it particularly suitable for tasks where response times measured in seconds are important. For example, the model can be used in real time by browser-based AI agents and customer support services.

Haiku 5.5 also performs well at frequently repeated, high-volume operations. These include creating short summaries, compressing context, sending database queries, and classifying data.

The new model can also be used as an AI assistant in the programming process. Anthropic recommends using it alongside the more powerful Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 models. With this approach, Haiku 5.5 can handle simpler, faster tasks, reducing the workload on the main model.

The most notable aspect, however, is the price. Compared with Haiku 4.5, the new model costs an average of 75% less to use. However, the price increases 5-fold for tasks requiring the processing of more than 100,000 tokens. Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available on Claude, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
