Apple Unveils HomePod mini 2 — Speaker Lights Up to the Beat of Music

Apple has unveiled the next-generation HomePod mini 2 smart speaker. Although the model retains the compact design of the previous version, it stands out with more powerful audio processing, Siri AI support, and a new Sound Glow feature that lights up to the beat of music.

The HomePod mini 2's audio capabilities are powered by the Apple S10 chip. A dedicated audio processing system adjusts the volume, dynamic range, and overall sound in real time. The speaker can be used on its own, two devices can be paired as a stereo pair, or they can operate as part of a single audio system in different rooms throughout the home. When used with the new Apple TV 4K, four HomePod mini 2 speakers can create a surround sound system. The system automatically adjusts the audio settings based on the speakers' positions.

The new model's most interesting feature is a lighting system called Sound Glow. The speaker's top panel pulses to the beat of the music, responding to low and high frequencies in real time. The light colors change to match the cover art of the album being played. When background effects such as rain sounds are activated, the device displays a special animation that matches those sounds. As a result, HomePod mini 2 accompanies music not only with sound but also with visual effects.

HomePod mini 2 supports Siri AI and can recognize the voices of up to six people in the home. This allows each family member to receive personalized responses and music recommendations based on their preferences. The speaker can be used to control smart home devices, run automated routines, and monitor the status of connected accessories. In addition, the device can recognize alarm sounds from smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and issue an alert.

Apple offers HomePod mini 2 in five colors: pink, green, blue, white, and dark gray. The speaker is priced at $149, with sales scheduled to begin on October 30.
