Apple unveils M6-powered MacBook Pro laptop and iMac all-in-one
Apple has unveiled a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip. The company also showcased a 24-inch iMac with the same chip. The laptop will start at $1,999 (approximately 3,400 manats). The all-in-one computer will sell for $1,499 (approximately 2,550 manats). Prices have not increased compared with the previous generation. Preorders for both devices will begin on October 28.
The M6 chip has a 12-core CPU, the main computing processor. The GPU, which handles graphics, also has 12 cores. According to Apple, graphics performance has increased by up to 30% compared with the M5 chip. AI tasks are also up to 25% faster. Queries sent to large language models are processed up to 13 times faster than on the M1 MacBook Pro. Overall performance is said to be 1.3 times that of the M5 model.
The base version of the new MacBook Pro has 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. RAM is used to run applications, while the SSD stores files. Users will be able to choose 24 GB or 32 GB of RAM. Internal storage can be increased to a maximum of 4 TB. The chip’s data transfer speed with memory has risen from 153 GB/s to 170 GB/s, meaning data is transferred faster. The device supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. The model will be sold in black and silver.
The laptop has HDMI, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. It also has 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports and an SDXC memory card slot. As in previous models, the camera is 12 MP. A powerful, compatible USB-C adapter can charge the battery to 50% in 30 minutes. Apple promises 24 hours of battery life for the device.
Preorders will open on the official sales page on October 28 at 21:10. Sales of the devices will begin on November 6. A nano-texture display that reduces reflections can be selected for an additional $150 (approximately 260 manats). This coating makes the screen easier to see outdoors and under bright light.
The new iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display. The camera and sound system have also been upgraded. The computer has up to 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports. The accessories in the box will match the color of the chassis, while the operating system is macOS 27. Each core of the M6 chip has a dedicated component that accelerates AI calculations. According to Apple, AI performance is 5 times that of the M4 model. The iMac will be available in 7 different colors.
