Customer orders mini PC made of 24-karat gold for AZN 2.89 million
A customer who loves precious metals ordered a special version of the “Kubb Fanless” mini PC made of pure 24-karat gold. The device cost approximately $1.7 million (approximately AZN 2.89 million). The cube-shaped computer, with sides measuring 120 mm, is as small as the standard model. However, the gold case has turned it into a very expensive and heavy desktop computer.
The standard aluminum model weighs 2.1 kg, while the gold version weighs 13 kg. In other words, although the computer remains the same size, it is more than 6 times heavier and has become difficult to carry. Gold dissipates heat 30-50% faster than aluminum. Because the computer is cooled without a fan and expels heat through its case, this difference may provide a certain advantage for processor performance. Gold has a thermal conductivity of 314 W/mK, compared with 205 W/mK for aluminum. The higher the figure, the faster the material dissipates heat. However, gold is not the best material in this respect. The figure is 385 W/mK for copper and 406 W/mK for silver. For diamond, it reaches 1,000 W/mK.
The standard “Kubb Fanless” can be configured with an “Intel Core Ultra 5 225H,” “Intel Core Ultra X7 358H” or “AMD Ryzen AI 5 340” processor. The computer comes with 16 GB of DDR5 RAM by default. The memory can be expanded to 128 GB. A fast 1 TB NVMe SSD is installed for files, and a second M.2 SSD can also be added. The “Intel” version has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The “AMD” variant uses Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
The “Intel” model has USB 3.2 Type-A, USB 3.2 Type-C and USB4 ports supporting Thunderbolt 4 speeds. The “AMD” version has a USB 3.2 Type-A port and 2 USB4 ports. On the side are 2 RJ45 network ports and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. It also includes 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports.
The computer uses a 120 W adapter. The device comes with “Windows 11 Pro” installed and includes a 3-year warranty. The standard aluminum case is available in graphite, blue and bronze. The standard model with an “Intel Core Ultra 5 225H” processor costs 1,595 euros (approximately AZN 3,080). Its price in dollars is $1,822 (approximately AZN 3,100). None of these versions are currently in stock. The gold model stands out more for its case material, high price and heavy weight than for its technical capabilities.
