IKEA Turns the Xbox Controller into a Giant Seat
IKEA has unveiled a new collection of Xbox-inspired furniture and home accessories in collaboration with Microsoft. The nine-product collection, called Yxstaby, commemorates the 25th anniversary of the first Xbox console. The new collection includes a TV stand, laptop stand, side table, armchair, multipurpose toolbox, decorative items, a cushion, and a seat. Some of the products incorporate recognizable elements of the Xbox controller into their designs. One of the collection’s most eye-catching products is a large seat resembling an Xbox controller’s analog stick. IKEA says the Xbox controller’s original 3D design files were used to create it. The seat’s surface is textured like an analog stick, and the seat itself can tilt to some extent as the user moves.
Another product that more clearly evokes the Xbox style is the green, X-shaped cushion. The armchair in the collection also has a mesh compartment underneath for storing game controllers, magazines, and books. The TV stand is available in white and black. This wheeled piece of furniture has shelves for a game console and other devices, as well as sections for hanging accessories. The side table in the collection is also on wheels and has a green shelf for storing additional items. IKEA has also created a mirrored box for displaying Xbox controllers decoratively. Another interesting product is a metal decorative bowl inspired by the controller’s D-pad button. IKEA designer David Wahl said that 25 years ago, when the first Xbox went on sale, he spent the entire night waiting in line to get one. The shapes of the Xbox controller therefore hold nostalgic significance for him. According to the designer, the main challenge was turning the shape of the analog stick into a comfortable and stable seat while preserving its form. The IKEA Yxstaby collection is scheduled to go on sale in fall 2026. Exact release dates and prices for the products will vary by market.
