Pinterest Introduces AI Tool That Creates Beauty Plans

    Pinterest announced a new feature called “Beauty Guides” on Tuesday. The AI-powered feature turns saved beauty posts into a clear salon plan. By explaining hair and nail ideas step by step, the plan helps users describe their desired look more precisely to a salon professional.    “Beauty Guides” is powered by the company’s image recognition system and its text-generating AI technology called “Pinterest Intelligence.” The system analyzes the style shown in an image and describes it using terminology employed by hairstylists and nail technicians. This allows users to communicate what they want accurately even if they are unfamiliar with terms such as “balayage,” “root melt,” which creates a soft color transition at the hair roots, and “almond nails,” meaning almond-shaped nails.    Tapping the “Get the Guide” button in the app opens a detailed guide. It explains exactly what to ask the salon professional for, how long the procedure will take, and the estimated price range. It also explains the aftercare needed to maintain the look. For example, it indicates how often a haircut, color refresh, and other touch-ups may be needed.    Initially, “Beauty Guides” will work with posts related to hairstyles, hair color, nail shape, and the finished look. Using the language in the guide, users will be able to tell the salon professional which parts of an example they want to keep and which they want to change. This makes it possible to create a more specific plan that accounts for the time, cost, and aftercare in advance, rather than simply bringing a reference image to the salon.
